Awards from IEEE Spectrum Honor Innovative Technologies

18 April – The 2006 IEEE Spectrum / EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics Awards were presented earlier this month in San Jose, Calif., in conjunction with the Embedded Systems Conference sponsored by CMP Media. The 2006 IEEE Spectrum ACE Award for Technology in the Service of Society was presented to American Superconductor and the Tennessee Valley Authority for the development of the Superconducting Synchronous Condensor (SuperVAR), which is designed to avoid wide-spread power grid collapses; the 2006 IEEE Spectrum ACE Award for Emerging Technology went to IBM, Sony and Toshiba for the Cell Microprocessor – cited as β€œthe technology offering the greatest potential for financial success.”
